As St. Augustine says, “Singing is for the one who loves.” Music is therefore a sign of God’s love for us and of our love for God.
-Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship
Music Ministry at St. Bridget’s invites the full and joyful participation of the assembly through liturgical music that inspires and encourages the faithful to express in song their love for God and God’s loving presence amongst us.
All styles of “hymns and inspired songs” are included in our musical repertoire including contemporary music, hymns, chant, world music, African American songs and hymns, Taize, and contemporary hymnody.
St. Bridget’s invites musicians who feel called by their gifts, talents, and passions to serve in music ministry in various ways:
- Cantor: Musicians who possess the gifts of singing and hospitality are encouraged to become a Cantor. Cantors lead the assembly, inviting their participation to sung prayer. Cantors also provide vocal leadership in dialogue with the assembly necessary to celebrate in worship. Liturgy training and musical support is provided.
- Instrumentalists: Musicians who play an instrument, High School age and adult, are encouraged to come play with the choir.
- Adult Choir: a model of community, our adult choir enriches the assembly song with harmonies intended to inspire participation. High School age, older and young at heart are encouraged to join. The choir sings at the Sunday 9:30 mass (3 times a month) and other Solemnities and special celebrations throughout the year. The choir meets September through Pentecost, meeting for an 8:30 Sunday morning rehearsal preceding the 9:30 mass. Some Wednesday evenings are scheduled to prepare for the Christmas and Easter Season. Rehearsals are 6:30 – 8:00 pm in the church. It is not necessary to be an experienced singer to join, just a willingness to sing with others and a heart of service.
