Come and sit in prayer with our Mother Mary at the foot of the Cross of Jesus in our sanctuary. We have a new Icon on loan from the Redemptorists. This icon is over 115 years old.
The icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help is the “Davenport Icon” (No 3379) dated May 17, 1909. It was blessed by Pope St Pius X and touched to the original Miraculous Icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help at San Alfonso in Rome. It is approximately the same size as the original and has some cracks and chips, as would be expected for a 115-year-old hand painted wooden artifact.
We believe this icon was requested upon the foundation of the Redemptorist community in Davenport, Iowa in 1908. Perhaps it hung in the church and then later, the community chapel. It became the icon for the student chapels after the Redemptorists withdrew from Davenport and has been in storage since the Redemptorist Order closed their Seelos House student residence in Chicago in 2017.
