Ice Cream Social
July 25 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
This yearly summer event began as a way of thanking those who volunteered to help with the Parish Summer Festival. Volunteers and parishioners would gather in the gym and enjoy ice cream, pies, cookies, root beer floats, etc. as a way of celebrating their achievement in completing a successful festival. However, in time this parish celebration developed into a community celebration inviting our parishioners and neighbors to come together to get to know one another and form a deeper sense of community.
This year’s event will be held on July 25 from 6 until 8 p.m.
As usual, there will be hot dogs, chips, pies, cookies, root beer floats, and door prizes. In addition to coming to celebrate with us, you can help by:
• Inviting a friend or neighbor to join you
• Donating 2 liter bottles of pop – especially root beer
• Baking a pie or cookies or bars
Pop can be brought to the parish office any time during regular office hours, donations of baked goods can be dropped off Tuesday, July 24, at the office, or that evening at the social. If you have a little extra time on the 25 to help set up and take down, it would be appreciated.
Pope Francis continually reminds us about the importance of building a community that mirrors the hospitality and welcome of Christ… a community where there is always room for one more…where all are welcome…where we recognize one another as sisters and brothers. He also reminds us that we need to take what we hear and celebrate within the walls of the church beyond those walls to those who live and work in our communities but who do not worship with us. Our Annual Neighborhood Ice Cream Social is one more way in which we strive to do that.
Let’s make this year’s ice cream social a great success! Rain or shine, hope to see you there!
