Sacramental Preparations

Preparation for Baptism

Baptism is the sacrament that marks the beginning of Christian life and is the first sacrament of initiation.  In baptism we are freed from sin and become sons and daughters of God. In the sacrament we receive the very life of God, become part of the Body of Christ, become members of the Church, and are classed to share in its mission. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, nos. 1213-1284)

The Parish Community of St. Bridget celebrates the Sacrament of Baptism for all ages. Adults seeking Baptism may enroll in the RICA program. The Sacrament of Baptism for infants and children can be arranged through the parish office.

Families choosing to baptize their children through the Parish Community of St. Bridget are invited (along with Godparents) to attend a Baptism Preparation Workshop that offers insight concerning the Sacrament of Baptism.

Sacramental Preparation for Marriage

The sacrament of Matrimony signifies the union of Christ and the Church. It gives spouses the grace to love each other with the love with which Christ has loved the Church; the grace of the sacrament thus perfects the human love of the spouses, strengthens their indissoluble unity, and sanctifies them on the way to eternal life. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1661.)

Congratulations on your engagement! Celebrating the sacrament of marriage is an important part of the life of our parish. The couple benefits from the support of the people of the parish, and the people likewise benefit from the example given of the love that Christ has for the Church and for the people.

Couples wishing to be married through the Parish Community of St. Bridget are asked to begin the process at least 9 months prior to their anticipated wedding date. Couples will meet with our priest or deacon during the process, become involved in the FOCCUS inventory, along with a mentor couple from the parish, and must attend an engaged couples retreat.

Please contact the parish office for more information on baptism or marriage preparation.
