The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process developed for prospective converts to Catholicism who are above the age of infant baptism. Candidates are gradually introduced to aspects of Catholic beliefs and practices.
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) groups work specifically with three kinds of people who might want to join the Catholic Church:
- Persons who have never been baptized
- Adults who were baptized, but who received little or no instruction after baptism, and
- Those who have been baptized into another denomination but who would like to consider the Catholic faith.
